Out of print for 50 years, Taschen has recently reissued this charming photographic experiment. Photographer Halsman asked the vaudeville actor Fernandel questions about America and recorded his facial expressions as response. Daughter Irene Halsman will be available to reintroduce this treasure and share stories of her father, a LIFE magazine portrait photographer.

Lewis includes the stories of dozens of other biracial Americans dealing with issues of interracial dating, affirmative action, transracial adoption and the complex balance between race, appearance and self-identity.
